It was time to have the piano tuned. My piano was purchased for my mother when I was born in 1958. I love it and have played it for years. When I sat down to play, I realized it needed to get resembling a harmonic sound! A few notes sounded flat and it desperately needed a new varnish job!
I obtained the piano several years back and was thrilled to have it. My mother gave it to me. Upon receiving it I took it to a piano refinisher. He was awesome! He worked, sanded, varnished with the intention of bringing it up to its’ original look. We had moved to Las Vegas at the time, stationed at Nellis AFB. When we received the call, the piano was completed in the refinishing, we drove from NV to TN and picked it up and brought it to our new home on Nellis AFB. It was beautiful.
Upon arriving at the base with my gorgeous instrument, we sat it in its’ intended spot and let it sit for a couple of weeks. Then, the time came! I sat down to play it. The outside was so pretty, but the sound was flat! And a couple of the keys were sticking.
It came to mind how we can clean up our outside appearance and fool others, while our insides need tuning! I immediately called a piano tuner and he came over. He said, “It’s not bad for the age, but it is in need of the master’s touch!” After about 4 hours, his touch created a beautiful, sharp sound! I asked if the sounding board had been cracked so it would be able to hold a tune and he said, “Oh no, this piano doesn’t have a sounding board. Just keep it clean and tuned and you’ll have a great piano!”
Our lives are like that! We can look a certain way on our outer being. In fact, we can have a complete overhaul, but it is the inside that counts. We do not have sounding boards that can be cracked – for when Jesus cleanses us, we are made new – all old keys sticking, play beautiful and we just need to keep our sins confessed so the music we make glorifies our Heavenly Father. We can sing a new song and make a joyful noise to the Lord! It is time to play a song to Jesus!
II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
I Samuel 16:7, “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
Psalm 98:4, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”
Is it time to play a song for Jesus through your life? Can others hear the melodious sound coming from you? Is it a song of Praise and Glory for Jesus? Rise and shine and give God the glory through the sound of music flowing from you!
