And the Walls Fell

Wyoming is an awesome place to live. It has the Little Big Horn Mountains that are breathtakingly gorgeous! They have beauty in the summer with the Bison on the range and snow in the winter with the kids sledding down the hillside. Then there was us! We had a townhouse and a big back yard in Sheridan, WY. Shortly after we purchased the home, we gifted a Siberian Huskey pup, and she was darling. It was fun to have her as our 2-year-old son, Jeremiah, would hang on to her leash and be pulled face down on the floor while Nakea Sabaka would pull him all the way down the stairs while I was yelling, “Let go of the leash!!!” Finally, we decided she was big enough to go out to the back yard if Jim could build a doghouse for her.
After a trip to the local lumber store for the necessary supplies, he started the project. Building a doghouse did not seem to be a tremendously difficult job and he labored diligently on it. Finally, it appeared to be completed. He chose a spot in the yard that would best fit the needs of the dog, and it was home sweet home! That night as the dog lay in her new house, the wind came up. Oh, did I mention to tell you the winds whip through Wyoming like a madman on a horse? The next morning we awoke to find that the wind had completely pulled the roof off and all the walls lay fallen back flat on the ground. There sat the dog in the center, totally uncovered and without protection. LOL We laughed so hard at the whole picture!
The wind and the falling walls created an analogy to share. Please permit me to compare the howling wind to a “brawling” (disposed to loud disagreements and fighting) woman in a home. Did you know that a woman out of control can cause the falling of the walls of her own house?? In fact, it is such distaste to the Lord that He says in Proverbs 21:9 and Proverbs 25:24, “It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.”
Isn’t that a scream? You live in a WIDE house but you yell and scream – miserable to live with – no one wants to be around you – you live in your own pity party and the Bible says – instead of tearing down your house – move out and move up to the rooftop. I have often wondered if the Lord thinks you might want to look up and seek His face while you are on the roof?? Just a thought!
Think of the number of women that profess to be a Christian and yet their husbands are not believers. If they continue to be brawling wives, there is little possibility the husbands will come to know the Lord. Why would they even want to? The walls of that house will come crashing down because of the “wind” of the wife. However, GOOD NEWS: I Peter 3:1 “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, (no wind – no brawling) may be won by the conduct of their wives,”.
So, stop being the cold blowing wind in your home. Be the calm of spirit that wins your husband and family to Jesus. Keep the walls standing firm and create a home that contains the Peace of the Lord.
Wow doesn’t that give you a calmness that stops you in your tracks!! Does me!
